Creature Comforts in Buckhead

The first residents are settling in at The Sutton Buckhead. They’ve moved in their chic sofas, their favorite paintings, their dining tables, and plushest rugs. And, they’ve moved in their rawhide treats, their favorite leash, and their can’t-live-without-em chew toys. For at Buckhead’s newest luxury address, both doctors and Dalmations, architects and Alsatians, and lawyers and Labradoodles share the terrain. And with a commitment to first-class comfort for canines, the pet-friendly residence has set a new bar for welcoming Man’s Best Friend to inspired, urban living.

Pet Project for Atlanta Developer

“Many of our residents have pets. And we really love them all,” enthuses Sarah Byrd, Assistant Manager of The Sutton. The building’s developers had always planned on creating a residence that welcomed dogs and the finished product has proven to be successful in that endeavor. An enclosed dog park, Byrd explains, will be completed in September and the building’s dog spa, bathing and grooming area are already up and running. In honoring the needs of the busy, city-dwelling pet owner, the emphasis here is on ease. “We have several dog walkers and dog sitters that come right to the building but there are lots of other terrific facilities in the area, as well” Byrd says.

The Sutton has no weight limit restrictions for its dog population. All size dogs are welcome and subject to specific rates for residence. “Our pet deposit for dogs under 25 pounds is $250 and a $250 pet fee. For dogs over 25 pounds, the deposit is $500 and a pet fee of $500. An additional $20 per pet is charged on top of monthly rent,” Byrd explains.

The Sutton staff’s puppy love begins upon entry to the building. “Our concierge is always ready to greet dogs coming through the lobby with a treat.” Additionally, The Sutton’s prime location in the bustling heart of Buckhead ensures that a wealth of canine-coddling options are available just outside the door.

Atlanta has long been recognized as a mecca for distinguished dining. Countless area restaurants have opened their doors to both patrons and their canine companions, including White Hall Tavern, Anis Bistro, and Lucky’s Burger and Brew. For residents of Buckhead, a few options have become go-to destinations for spending special time with their pets:

A brief stroll from The Sutton leads to the Shake Shack. A hot spot for casual dining and spirited socializing, the venue’s exceptional burgers, magnificent custard, and open-air rooftop patio have made it a Buckhead foodie favorite. Better still, dogs are always welcome and honored with Shake Shack’s sit-up-and-beg-worthy dog menu. Options include “The Pooch-ini” and “Bag of Bones,” each comprised of artisanal biscuits from New York City’s Bocce bakery.

For brunch-lovers, locals can’t beat the Treehouse Pub. Located in nearby Peachtree Hills, the restaurant boasts “Beer, Bourbon and Great Food” and keeps its regulars blissfully happy with dishes like Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, Crab Benedict and the Georgia Pecan Waffle. Here, you’ll enjoy the crackling energy of Buckhead’s social scene alongside your pooch. The Pub’s patio is always prepared with a set of water bowls on hand.

Variety is the Dish Du Jour at Atlanta’s Food Truck Park. Canines abound at this unique, outdoor enclave of food venues on Howell Mill Road. A rotating roster of vendors including Gezzo’s Surf and Grill, Nana G’s, and Tex’s Tacos serve mouthwatering to-go meals from around the globe. Plus, live music adds to the festive vibe Thursday through Sunday nights.

You can’t keep a good dog down. Therefore, a number of nearby dog parks encourage mutts-in-motion across rolling grasses that belie Atlanta’s urban landscape.

Piedmont Dog Park is set within Atlanta’s gorgeous and expansive Piedmont Park, where picnicking families, weekend joggers, and bicyclists dot the landscape. The dog park enclave affords lots of room to run and is one of metro Atlanta’s few locations to feature an off-leash area for boundless play.

Further north of the city, The Sandy Springs Dog Park boasts nearly 3.5 acres. Two specially designated zones for small and large dogs allow for off-leash exercise across grassy hills, around trees, and along a picturesque creek.

From the pet pampering of The Sutton’s dog spa to the wealth of pet-friendly amenities found locally, every dog has its day at 2965 Peachtree Road in Buckhead.
